Love Jam EP
Sapo joins forces once again with Futuro Tropicale for Love Jam EP, released by Hell Yeah Recordings on March 7, 2025.
Our collaboration comes from a shared attraction to electronic music that can move freely between different territories without becoming tied to a single genre. Futuro Tropicale’s selections have always travelled through downtempo, new beat, Italo, disco and house, while my own work and much of what surrounds Mad on the Moon has often explored the more psychedelic, loose and slightly off-centre edges of dance music.
Love Jam EP grew naturally out of this common ground: four tracks made for the dancefloor, but each approaching it from a different angle.
Love Jam opens the record with a slow, heavy groove. A thick bassline and warm chords give the track an almost suspended feeling, somewhere between house music and a late-night Balearic atmosphere. Excite Me moves into deeper territory. Dusty textures, restrained melodies and fragments of vocals create something more intimate and ambiguous, a track that works as much through atmosphere as through rhythm. With Suboceana, the record becomes more fluid and synthetic. Italo-flavoured melodies and bright, retro-futuristic synths float over a lean house groove, gradually building a strange underwater dancefloor landscape. Right Or Wrong closes the EP with the warmest and most soulful moment of the record. Percussion, claps and a loose late-night groove give it a playful character, bringing the four tracks together without trying to resolve their differences.
Rather than following a single stylistic direction, Love Jam EP moves across the musical space that Futuro Tropicale and I have shared for years: disco, deep house, Italo echoes, psychedelic details and music designed to acquire a different meaning when played loud, late at night.
